Ποιες είναι οι βασικές απειλές που αντιμετωπίζουν τα θαλάσσια θηλαστικά των ελληνικών θαλασσών; Ποιο είναι το νομοθετικό πλαίσιο που εξασφαλίζει την προστασία τoυς; Σε περίπτωση επαφής ή παρατήρησης μεσογειακής φώκιας ή κητώδους, ποιες είναι οι διαδικασίες που θα πρέπει να ακολουθήσουν οι τοπικές Αρχές και το Λιμενικό Σώμα, προκειμένου να εξασφαλίσουν την ασφάλειά τους αλλά και του ζώου;

What are the main threats to marine mammals living in the Greek Seas? What is the legal framework that ensures their protection? What are the procedures that need to be followed by local authorities and the Coast Guard in the case of contact and/or observation of monk seals or cetaceans in order to ensure humans’ and animals’ safety?

The training seminars organised in the context of the “Thalassa” European project aim to answer to the above questions. The seminars’ conduction will be initiated in Patras on September 27th. During the seminars the project’s personnel will present in detail the legislative framework for the protection of marine mammals in Greece, provide the participants with clear instructions in case of observing a marine mammal and provide contact information of the relevant bodies for the protection of the marine mammals. Additionally, the participants will watch the documentary produced for the “Thalassa” project entitled “Marine mammals, our cohabitants in the Greek Seas”. The purpose of these seminars is to provide information to specific groups of stakeholders, such as local authorities and the Coast Guard, who directly interact with the marine mammals in order to gain knowledge of how they can help in the efforts for the protection of these animals.
